As information technology advancements affected humans in general, students are also greatly affected by the newer and newer advancements in the field of IT. Today’s student not only have access to computer and internet to help them understand their lessons, they have access to research tools. They have a better and technologically advanced gadgets in their possession, which made it easy for them to have better understanding of their daily classwork. Students can be more active in receiving information and knowledge delivered by teacher, from a book or a broadcast by using technology as a tool or a support for communication with others. The advancements in the field of IT has lead the students to think more critically.
IT advancements in education helped students to make their own choices, enhance their skills and made them more confident about their abilities. Nowadays, information technology is used as a tool to support students in performing authentic tasks, the students are in position of defining their goals, making decisions and evaluating their progress.
As today, almost every school and college has a computer lab, making students able to use the internet and digital encyclopedias to obtain the research they need. This makes student to be more self-confident and self-dependent.

Even a financially unstable student can take advantage of internet through these computer labs in his/her school and college. There are many course books as well as other informative books available online in free, one can download these books in free and can gain information and knowledge. Hence, if a student cannot afford hard copy of book, he can study through its soft copy.
Nowadays, a student is no more a book worm, by the use of internet students are well aware of how the things are going in their surroundings, in their country or at international level. They have access to the news all around the globe, this realization of real world problems is going to make them a good and sensible citizen to fit in their practical life and to play their part as a useful part of society.
Until now, we have discussed all the advantages of IT advancements which are helping students to do their job better. But as a coin has two sides, some advantages in the field of IT are not proved to be so good for students, in some cases it is the fault on the part of individual using it or of society in general. While the positive far outweighs the negative, the downside of technology still exists.
Where mobile phones and smart phones are helping students greatly to do better in their studies, there are also some disadvantages of these phones are coming on the surface. Sometimes, students start wasting their time in useless gossips and games. Everyday, there are new social media apps and games are coming into exist. Excessive use of social media apps and playing games too much is making students to waste their precious time. Using internet, students can come across such stuff which is very harmful for their mental and physical health. Parents should make sure to check personally, what their child is searching and watching online.
