Medicine IT Advancements

Things move fast in the world of modern medicine, with recent IT advancements in medicine. These IT advancements in medicine are changing the future and providing alternatives for the medical world. Today, we have been able to develop medicines and treatments that have been instrumental in saving millions of lives. From growing organs for transplant patients to reducing the risk of heart attacks, we’re so close to several medical breakthroughs that’ll forever alter human history.

We have always seen ICU’s so chaotic in all hospitals because alarms are constantly going off. Big data is solving this problem to a great extent as mission control operations monitor those alarms and alert staff when things require intervention. Similarly, hospitals are discharging patients quicker than ever these days.
In last few decades, artificial intelligence already produced impressive technologies that have significantly altered the healthcare landscape. In medicine, AI is changing the game with its applications in decision support, image analysis and patient triage.

Today, artificial intelligence is helping physicians make smarter decisions at the point of care, improving the ease and accuracy of viewing patient scans and reducing physician burnout. It is anticipated that AI systems will also be able to scan and diagnose your body at a much higher rate of accuracy than a human doctor, in nearest future.

Terrible viruses such as small-pox, influenza and hepatitis have ravaged many human populations throughout history. But with recent IT advancements in medicines, scientists have come across the idea of vaccination which got better with the further research and development. These vaccinations has reduced the risk factor to a significantly low rate. Over the years antivirals have improved significantly, and work by blocking the rapid reproduction of viral infections, and some can even stimulate the immune system to attack the virus. The development of effective antivirals has been significant in treating and controlling the spread of deadly virus outbreaks such as HIV/AIDS, Ebola and rabies.

Penicillin is a group of antibiotics which include penicillin G, penicillin V, procaine penicillin, and benzathine penicillin. The discovery of penicillin changed the world of medicine enormously. With its development, infections that were previously severe and often fatal, like bacterial endocarditis, bacterial meningitis and pneumococcal pneumonia, could be easily treated. Unfortunately, over the years certain bacterium have become increasingly resistant to antibiotics, leading to a world-wide crisis that calls for the pharmaceutical industry to develop new anti-bacterial treatments as soon as possible.

Anesthesia is the administration of medication to allow medical procedures to be done without pain, and in some cases, without the patient being aware during the procedure. There are three types of anesthesia:
(1)    Local Anesthesia
(2)    Regional Anesthesia
(3)    General Anesthesia
Some benefits anesthesia in surgery are:
  • Better pain control than intravenous narcotics,
  • Earlier recovery of bowel function,
  • Less need for systemic opioids (narcotics) and less nausea as a result,
  • Easier breathing resulting from better pain control,
  • Easier participation in physical therapy
